Rumgr recreates the feeling of a garage sale with an iOS app, letting users find stuff locally. It’s a little bit like Craigslist
Who doesn’t love a good garage sale? There is something thrilling about finding a book or collectable you’ve been looking for for years — and of course, it’s gratifying to sell it, too. A new app call Rumgr recreates the feeling of a garage sale with an iOS app, letting users find stuff locally. It’s a little bit like Craigslist, but without the extra categories or useless descriptions.
Rumgr, created by Dylan Bathurst, allows users to simply take a picture of something they want to sell, then barter a price with other users to sell it or just get rid of it. The app shows you photos of items within 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, and 50 miles, as well as items listed that are beyond 50 miles away. Only thumbnails of the item appear along with a few comments, which can include what the item is, reducing the time it takes to list an item and eradicating potentially false descriptions. (Craigslist, anyone?) And because the app is designed to locate only local items, you won’t have to worry about negotiating shipping costs or being asked to do a scammy wire transfer. Bathurst, who started Rumgr while working at Zappos, explained the method of buying and selling is simple.
“Rumgr is all about making it as easy as possible to buy and sell stuff. You literally take a photo, and it’s on Rumgr and ready to sell. You don’t have to fill out lengthy descriptions, tags, or prices. Sellers instantly get push notifications when someone has expressed interest in an item.”
Bathurst also explains the design of the app with its focus on thumbnails. “Rumgr isn’t really about finding specific items you need; it’s more about finding interesting items around you,” Bathurst says. When you see an item you like, users make a bid for it in the comments, and then both users can go into private chat mode to discuss the technicalities of the transaction.
Rumgr is still in early stages and constantly adding more features, but has been popular amongst individuals and local merchants who just have extra stuff. You can try out Rumgr from the iTunes App Store today, and be sure to let us know what you think about the app in the comments.

Get Paid to Take Pictures for Strangers with Crowdmug
Get Paid to Take Pictures for Strangers with Crowdmug
If you’re an iPhone addict with a slight tendency to take pictures of anything and everything, a new app lets you take pictures and get paid for it. Crowdmug is an app that lets users request photos from locations and get paid for providing the requested feature. The app is useful for those who want to see a vacation destination before they go, whether a bar or restaurant is crowded, or knowing if a space is appropriate for a meeting or group gathering.
With Crowdmug — only available for iOS users for now — users both make and fulfill requests for photos. Though the app has only been live for a few days, there are already several offers on the board, which can be filtered based on those nearby and those everywhere else. If you happen to live in a big city or work for a popular tech company, there may be even more options for you to make a few bucks. Offers tend to be low for now, averaging about $2 per photo. But as these are likely strangers who can’t get to the city — whether for work or play — you can recoup the cost of your daily coffee by snapping these shots and then cashing out via either PayPal or check.
While Crowdmug has a primarily commercial purpose, I wouldn’t be surprised if more users took advantage of the service to ask other users to check out a potential apartment or house before you can relocate to see it for yourself, or to crowdsource pictures of dorms and college campuses to help an accepted student check out their future campus without needing to actually visit the school.
Crowdmug is an innovate and fun way to take pictures and make little extra cash in the process. Download Crowdmug from the iTunes App Store, and stay tuned — an Android version is on its way

Accused Robber Tracked Down by GPS on Stolen iPhone
Accused Robber Tracked Down by GPS on Stolen iPhone
One of the many great things about smartphones is that they can be helpful in catching dumb criminals. Police say they used GPS technology to track down a teenage boy who was busted with a stolen phone he allegedly took from a woman late last night.
At about 11 p.m., the victim was walking home from work on the 1600 block of Post Street when she was shocked by a stun gun. She fell to the ground, and the robber quickly took her belongings, including her iPhone, according to police.
Police arrived at the scene where the woman informed them that she had a GPS tracking device on her phone. Police used their own GPS software and tracked the woman's phone all the way to the hands of the suspect, who had the phone with him, according to SFPD.
The suspect, a juvenile, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

Cellphone service goes live at 6 NYC subway stations
New Yorkers won’t be able to go underground to escape calls from the boss much longer — the Metropolitan Transportation Authority began launching cell phone service in its subway stations Tuesday.
Unlocked Cell Phone Discounts. Free Shipping. Large Selection Unlocked GSM Phones. No Contracts. Buy Now.
The new service went live in six stations in Chelsea. Crews plan to wire another 271 stations during the next five years, bringing Internet and voice calling to the subway’s 4.3 million daily riders.
Only AT&T and T-mobile phones will work at first, but the MTA says it hopes to have other carriers on board soon. The signal covers station areas but not tunnels.

Google+ hits 43 million users (unofficially). It took Facebook 3 years to reach 50 mil.
just thinking back to the year when everyone started using facebook , they had big user number as well , but i never got the site , didnt know why anyone would want to use it , and i had no idea how it worked or what do do once i joined ..
then one day i had a friend that would not give me their number , and i really wanted to contact them . they told me i could contact them on facebook , of course i said i dont use facebook and dont care to use it , well thats until they told me that would be the only way i could contact them ..
so i joined the facebook craze , and i was hookd , and im still a very active member til this day ..
what im trying to say is , i hear a few of yall putting down google plus even before you give it a try , the same way i didnt like facebook way before i even joined or gave it a try ...
In the past, according to PlusHeadlines, Allen has been startlingly accurate:
July 4th – 1.7 million users
July 9th – 4.5 million users
July 12 – 10 million users
September 9th – 28.7 million users
September 22nd – 43.4 million users
These numbers tie up almost exactly with confirmed reports that we’ve seen in the past, as well as our own findings from Google employees.
When you consider that Google+ is just barely 3 months old, the growth is huge. In fact, Allen posits that in the past 2 days since the public has been able to access the service without an invitation, there has been a 30% growth.
The stats leave me to question exactly what keeps drawing people in at such a rapid rate. Are people really backlashing against Facebook? A reported 800 million users seem to be just fine on the site, especially after recent changes to privacy. But maybe it’s a combination of just wanting a change, and Google’s rollout of comprehensive new features for its own network that has spurred momentum.
We’ve dropped a line to Google to get some confirmation, but given Allen’s track record it seems very likely that he’s dead on, or at least very close.

soon you’ll never have to leave Facebook, period.
Hulu announced the launch of a brand new Facebook app
Hulu does TV shows better than just about everyone. In fact, other than YouTube, Hulu attracts the highest level of engagement of any web video platform (with the average web viewer watching an average of 3.2 hours a month). Sure, users interact on Hulu discussion boards, tweet clips to friends, and share shows on Facebook, but the platform has long been in need of a better way to find and share TV shows and movies.
So, today at F8, Hulu announced the launch of a brand new Facebook app, which endeavors to make the Hulu experience social. What does that mean? For Hulu users this means getting to watch the video platform’s content directly within Facebook. Now you no longer have to leave Facebook to watch Hulu. And judging by all the news out of F8 today, soon you’ll never have to leave Facebook, period.

Fantastical. It’s OS X-only but I suspect the Windows crowd would get a kick out of it as well.
I’ve been using a pretty cool app of late called Fantastical. It’s OS X-only but I suspect the Windows crowd would get a kick out of it as well.
Basically it’s a natural language calendar app. You can paste (nearly) anything into its little window and it will automagically create an event. “Dinner with Joe at 5pm on Thursday” works just as you would imagine it would and unless today is Thursday, Fantastical will figure things out. It fumbles sometimes with word order and ends up setting all day lunches with “Tuesday” but most of the time that’s reparable with a few keystrokes.
i saw kevin rose used this app on diggnation , and its really cool ... but i went to the google calendar on windows , and i found out it can do the same thing ....
debuting a new iPhone app today, called ViKi On-The-Go
ViKi, an international video site for world TV series and movies translated in 100+ languages by its community, is debuting a new iPhone app today, called ViKi On-The-Go.
As we’ve written in the past, ViKi is an open-source-like solution for video, and acquires the rights to TV shows and movies. The site then puts it on one of its channels and within the first 24 hours an organized, volunteer community subtitles the content using ViKi’s software. The site has gained considerable traction in the past year. Currently, ViKi is seeing 8.5 millionunique visitors and 36 million tota visits in the past month, which is four times the traffic that ViKi has seen from last year.

Facebook vs. Twitter vs. Google+
Social Network Faceoff: Facebook vs. Twitter vs. Google+
In theory, all social networks—including Facebook, Twitter, and Google+—share a similar goal: To provide you with a platform to communicate online with your friends, followers, and encircled. In reality, each network has a considerably different culture, and as such, each is useful in very different ways. Here's a look at what each network does best.
How about you guys , feel free to leave a comment on this post ...
Facebook made some compelling announcements today, and like the service or not, you can't deny that Facebook is building a powerful platform that extends far beyond what most of us think of when we're talking about social networks.
the problem with this is that most people are not looking to learn new things , it took them awhile to learn the ins and outs of facebook .. and now with all the new changes , it time for them to learn again ...
Google+ Is Like an Old-School Forum or Blog
In many ways, it also feels like a blogging platform with a very active community. That causes some dissonance for people who want to own their content on their own blog, but it's also a testament to Google+ as a solid platform for deeper-than-normal interaction on social networks.
hey i just started using google+ , if you know me and you are thinking of giving google+ a try , add me ..
Twitter Is Great for Broadcasting, Taking the Temperature, and Starting Relationships
unless you are a big star in show business no one really cares what your doing every minute of the day , unless they are your friends or family , which is what facebook is already taking care of ..
Facebook Is Great for Friends
While Twitter and Google+ are excellent platforms for people interested in reaching outside their social circles, Facebook is really good at reaching in and strengthening interaction within social circles that already exist outside of Facebook's database. Families; friends; co-workers. They're Facebook's bread and butter.

Gates still richest but Zuckerberg climbs quickly
Gates still richest but Zuckerberg climbs quickly
But perhaps the biggest movement, at least when looking with an eye for tech moguls, is Zuckerberg's rise to No. 14 on the Forbes list with $17.5 billion. Last year the 27-year-old was at No. 35 on the list at $6.9 billion and the year before he didn't even didn't even qualify as a billionaire. Zuckerberg, this year, also elbowed out Google co-founders Larry Page, 38, and Sergey Brin, 38, who both ranked 15 on the list with net worths of $16.7 billion. But Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos beat out Page, Brin, and Zuckerberg, coming in 13th with an estimated wealth of $19.1 billion.
Some others of note on the list this year included Michael Dell, 46, at No. 18 with an estimated wealth of $15 billion; Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, 55, at No. 19 with an estimated wealth of $13.9 billion; Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, 58, at No. 23 with $13.2 billion; and quite a ways down at No. 39, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, 56, at $7 billion.

The New York Knicks have acquired Carmelo Anthony
New York– The New York Knicks have acquired Carmelo Anthony in a blockbuster fifteen player deal which included Chauncey Billups coming to New York.
The Nuggets acquired Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton and draft picks in exchange.
The Knicks beat out the rival New Jersey Nets to win the Anthony sweepstakes by agreeing to a trade with the Denver Nuggets on Monday, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

The deal that would finish the season-long trade speculation involving Denver’s All-Star forward and send him to his desired destination can’t be finalized until Tuesday during a conference call with the NBA office. Assuming it goes through, it puts Anthony alongside Amare Stoudemire in a potentially explosive frontcourt — at a heavy cost to the Knicks, who hoped in July to sign two top stars but came away with only one.
All trades for coaches are sad, there’s happy and sad. I’m glad it’s over, I’m glad it’s an opportunity to reinvent,” Denver coach George Karl said as he got into his SUV outside the Pepsi Center on Monday night. “I think everybody handled it as classy as you can handle it. There’s some sadness to it, there always will be. In the same, it’s time to move on, reinvent.”
The Knicks would hope Anthony could be in uniform Wednesday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks.
Anthony led the Nuggets to the playoffs in each of his first seven seasons in Denver after winning a national title at Syracuse as a freshman and had them positioned for another playoff run this year. But Denver advanced out of the first round just once in that time.
